#13. Proud Mary

"Debuting at #13 on the charts...!!" as Casey Kasem used to say.

For a club that prides itself on traditions and old gear made out of leather and canvas and cast iron, #13 is a very high ranking for some new fangled piece of equipment.  Especially one made out of aircraft-grade aluminum.   But after one trip, it was obvious to everyone involved that our water wheel is already on a fast track to the Hall of Fame.

For years we brought that sminchy little electric rotisserie with it's constant and annoying whine, and then we brought the big spit once for the hog - which required hot and dirty manual labor.   It's a little embarrassing, honestly, that we didn't use water power a lot sooner.

"Gee, where can we find a steady, quiet, reliable source of energy?  Way out here next to this perpetually flowing river?"

"I don't know, let's change the batteries on this sminchy little electric rotisserie and go have another drink by the perpetually flowing river."

As a not insignificant bonus, our new water wheel is a steady, reliable and perpetual source of entertainment and conversation.

The fact that she also cooks our dinner.... that's the kind of stuff that gets you straight into the Top 25.

Big wheel keep on turnin', Proud Mary keep on burnin'
Rollin', rollin', rollin' on the river...
